In order to reduce the harm of foam, the coolant usually needs to have a certain defoaming performance, and the defoaming performance is determined by the defoamer.
The ideal defoaming effect can be achieved with a concentration of only 0.001% to 0.1% of defoamer.
3. Buffer/PH regulator
The corrosion inhibitor added to antifreeze has a better effect in neutral media, but during the operation of antifreeze, the medium will acidify and the pH value will decrease, which reduces the effectiveness of the corrosion inhibitor. Therefore, buffering agents need to be added to the antifreeze to stabilize the pH value between 7.5 and 11. Common pH regulators include borates, phosphates, and organic amines.
4. Colorants
Adding non-toxic water-soluble coloring agents to antifreeze is different from regular cooling water, making it easier to observe whether the antifreeze in the cooling system leaks. It also serves as an indicator to monitor changes in the acidity or alkalinity of the antifreeze.
The coloring agent referred to here is the determining factor that affects the color of antifreeze. And the role of coloring agents is only indicated for visual distinction and does not affect performance. Therefore, whether it is red coolant or green coolant. There is no necessary connection between color and the quality of antifreeze.
So even if the original antifreeze is green, it is completely possible to replace it with red antifreeze. But the premise is to replace the antifreeze as a whole, and never mix them together to avoid performance conflicts.
